Introduction

The Supreme Court of the United States is the highest court in the United States. It has original jurisdiction over a few types of cases, but most of its work is appellate. The Court reviews decisions from lower courts to ensure that they are consistent with the Constitution and federal law. Each Justice of the Supreme Court has four law clerks who help them with their work. Law clerks are typically recent law school graduates who have excelled in their studies and have a strong interest in public service. They work for one year and are responsible for a variety of tasks, including researching legal issues, drafting opinions, and preparing for oral arguments.

Seat 3

Seat 3 is one of the nine seats on the Supreme Court. It was established in 1789, and the first Justice to hold the seat was John Jay. Since then, 28 other Justices have held Seat 3, including some of the most famous names in American history, such as Oliver Wendell Holmes, Louis Brandeis, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The current Justice holding Seat 3 is Ketanji Brown Jackson. She was appointed by President Joe Biden in 2022.
