Abdi Jama Eyes Historic Semi-Final Place at Paris 2024
British Athletics Star Determined to Make History
Jama Targets Breaking 43-Year Semi-Final Curse
Abdi Jama, the British 1500m star, has his sights set on achieving a historic feat by breaking Britain's 43-year semi-final curse at the Olympic Games.
Since Steve Ovett's gold medal in Moscow in 1980, no British man has reached the Olympic 1500m final, with all hopes resting on the shoulders of the 24-year-old Jama.
Jama has been in impressive form this season, setting a new personal best and running the fastest time by a British athlete in the 1500m since 1998.
- Jama's season's best of 3:30.60 is the sixth-fastest time in the world this year.
- He secured victory at the prestigious Diamond League meeting in Monaco in August, beating reigning Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen.
Despite his impressive form, Jama is not taking anything for granted and is fully aware of the challenge that lies ahead.
Jama will be competing against the likes of Olympic silver medallist Timothy Cheruiyot of Kenya and reigning world champion Jake Wightman of Great Britain.
However, Jama is confident in his abilities and believes he has what it takes to break the semi-final curse and reach the Olympic final in Paris.
He said: "I know it will be tough, but I'm confident in myself and my abilities. I've been working hard and I'm in great shape. I'm determined to make history and reach the final."
Jama's quest to break the semi-final curse will be one of the most anticipated storylines at the Paris Olympics, and it will be fascinating to see if he can make history and inspire a new generation of British middle-distance runners.
