Early Life and Career
Douglas James "Doug" Burgum was born on August 1, 1956, in Arthur, North Dakota. He began his career as a businessman, co-founding Great Plains Software in 1983. The company became a successful technology firm, which Burgum sold to Microsoft in 2001.
Political Career
In 2016, Burgum decided to enter politics. He ran for governor of North Dakota as a Republican, despite never having held elected office before. He won the election and has been serving as governor since 2016.

As governor, Burgum has prioritized economic development, education, and government efficiency. He has implemented several initiatives, including tax cuts, investments in infrastructure, and reforms to the state's education system.
