Veteran New York Yankees radio broadcaster John Sterling was back behind the microphone Sunday, just one day after being hit by a foul ball while calling the final at-bat of the Yankees' 3-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics.
As New York was closing out its victory in the ninth inning, Sterling was hit in the face with a foul ball off the bat of Athletics' Sheldon Neuse. The ball made a loud thump as it struck Sterling, who immediately fell to the ground.
Sterling was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for a broken nose and a concussion. He was released from the hospital later that night and returned to the broadcast booth on Sunday to call the Yankees' game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
"I'm feeling a little bit better today," Sterling said on Sunday's broadcast. "I'm still a little bit sore, but I'm glad to be back behind the microphone."
